Hey! We just tried a recipe for some of the best (and easiest) Christmas cany! I thought you might enjoy having it. It was the Grand Prize winner in an issue of Taste of Home magazine.
Cookie Dough Truffles
1/2 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour (I had to use more)
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 miniature semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1-1/2 pounds semisweet chocolate candy coating, chopped
In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the flour, milk and vanilla; mix well. Stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts. Shape into 1-inch balls; place on waxed paper-lined baking sheets. Loosely cover and refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until firm.
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt candy coating, stirring often until smooth. Dip balls in coating; place on waxed paper-lined baking sheets. Refrigerate until firm, about 15 minutes. If desired, remelt remaining cany coating and drizzle over candies. Store in the refrigerator.
Yield: 5-1/2 dozen.
Hope you enjoy them! We love them. They were really fast and easy, and made of ingredients I usually have on hand. Happy Holidays!!!

A Moment of Silence
Wow! While I have a moment, I'll try to write a quick update:
Treyton and Brenlon are now playing basketball. Treyton is working hard, and has earned a starting position on the A-Team. Brenlon is starting on the B-Team. Football ended well--they crushed North Powder (our rival) 64-24. It was an awesome game to watch. They are both on the Lego Robotics Team, and will be competing in the local tournament on Saturday. They both got straight A's on their first quarter report card.
Jayden and Kindra are doing well. Kindra competed at the State Elks Soccer Shoot in Salem, Or earlier this month. She received 2nd place! She scored 34 points, which is a great score. She won the District Shoot with a score of 28. Jayden is excited to start basketball next week. Brett started up an AAU Basketball program here in Cove a few years ago for the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. Kindra is nervous to try it, but I'm sure she'll do great.
Landon is still having problems with his ears. He failed his 3rd hearing test recently. He has slight hearing loss in one ear, and slight-to-moderate hearing loss in the other. Monday we went in to see about getting his ears tubed again. They were infected again. We are setting an appointment with the specialist to tube them. This will be the 3rd time. They found during his hearing tests that his ears work fine, they are just constantly full of fluid so he can't hear well. It is starting to affect his daily life, so we are hoping tubing them again will help fix the problem.
Kierra is doing great. She is just a little ball of fire. She misses Lanny terribly in the mornings, but seems to enjoy the alone time with Mommy. I think she just misses fighting with Lanny, as that's what she starts doing as soon as we pick him up from school! She loves her short hair, but reminds me all the time that only Mommy can cut her hair now. Thank goodness!
We stayed home for Thanksgiving this year. This was a first for us. We've gone to my parents house every year since we've been married. It was such a nice, relaxing weekend! My parents came to our house Thursday and left Saturday. I think they enjoyed it also, so maybe we can do it again next year! After my parents left we went up the mountain and got a Christmas tree. We decorated it Sunday, as well as the inside of the house. We've never gotten the decorating done so early before! It feels so nice. We got 6 inches of snow Monday night and Tuesday morning, and now it's turned cold. It's supposed to warm up tomorrow, so I'm hoping to get lights and decorations up outside. I love the snow, but wish it wouldn't get cold right afterwards. The roads are just packed ice, as there was no time to melt them off.
Well, that's about it around here. Brett starts Tithing Settlement this Sunday. He's really looking forward to it! Ha! Ha! I've been having some health problems, but the doctors are working on figuring out what's wrong. Otherwise, we are doing well around here! Take care everyone!

Look at this
If I can do this I want to show you some pictures. This was our weekend. We missed church on Sunday because we had the 4 wheel drive truck stuck, it slide down the hill toward the hay shed. Yes that was slid. I must admit I did not mind being in my home all day Saturday and Sunday.

WOW, I did it all by my self!
Hi Family,
Sure is nice to read your blogs. Cam I check often for those pictures of the baby belly and ultra sound. How is he growning? Karen it is so fun to read your updates on the kids. I can't seem to get it to sink into my head that Treyton is almost a Teacher. Happy Birthday to you Treyton! That will be a week from tomorrow, wow. Deacon was one thing but next thing I know it will be a priest and then bam, a missionary. Oh my, I think my bones are starting to ache at the thought. DeLana, I wish Sidnee would have come up. I know it would not be Raven's thing but Sid and I could have had great fun. She could have been my buddy to that period of time. I have missed seeing the kids. They all grow so fast. Christmas can not come fast enough for me. I need out of here. I am tired of my routine. Anyone want to trade? Love to you all, MOM P.S. I need Christmas lists please. If you post it here we can all benefit.

Baby Walking!!!
Jaxon has finally decided that walking is the way to go! It is now his main mode of movement. It is funny to watch him wobble after the cats saying "meow" like he expects them to stop and have a conversation with him. It is even funnier to see him stop mid walk and start dancing because he heard some music.
Mason went missing on me Thursday night. After searching his realm of comfort, I started to panic. The whole neighbourhood helped. He was with his little buddy that lives 3 houses down and neither of them had ever done anything like this. Just before I was about to call the 911, Raven called and said that they were at a neighbours house, a place that Mason is allowed to go to, but that no one had answered the door when Raven knocked previous. The mom brought the 2 missing boys to their moms as we were weeping uncontrollably. All Mason said with a confused look on his face was, "I was at David's". Talk about a scare me to death experience. I kept telling myself that he was okay and probably warm in someones house that he was allowed to be at, and he was. The newest rule in our house is that the kids have to call home when they get to their friends house that they have asked permission to visit. Mason was really concerned when he saw me crying. He had no clue what was up. The moms in the neighbourhood have decided that we will call the parent when their child shows up at our door and again when we send them home.
Sidnee is thoroughly enjoying kindergarten. She can hardly wait until she goes all day. She is getting good at taking care of her own hair and gives herself homework. She is already telling me that she is bored. I will be spending 1 day a month in her class, hopefully more.
Raven is doing well and enjoying karate as well as school. She is still the social butterfly. She loves to help in the kitchen. She made our peach freezer jam and then made the custard for our peach custard pie.
Steve just started a new shift at work. He is now M,T,W,S from 11:30 a to 10:00 pm. We will see how this goes. He is testing for his for degree black belt in October and still teaching karate. His new schedule is going to make teaching a little harder.
I am still enjoying my home. I enjoy having space to cook. I just finished putting up 4 bushels of peaches. They are so good. Now I am on to apples, I hope. I need to make more pie filling and applesauce. Some of my neighbours are wanting to join me in this adventure. After canning season then it is on to painting the kids rooms. Wish me luck.

Life Comes At You Fast
Hey! Things are still crazy here at the Brett Moore house. We've had an interesting couple of weeks. Treyton received a Blue Ribbon at the State Fair, but we haven't heard where he placed over-all. The judge checked off "Excellent" in every category and gave him very positive comments, but didn't let him know what to improve so he could do better next year. We asked our local leaders to try to find out where he placed over-all, so we could at least know how much improvement he needs in order to compete better next year.
Two weeks ago Brenlon jammed his left thumb while tackling someone in football practice. He kept it taped, and the coaches didn't let him play as much so it could heal up. A week later he hurt the same thumb when someone tackled him during practice. This time it seemed worse, so I took him in to the ER for x-rays. 4 1/2 hour later we found out that it was fractured. The doctor put him in a half-cast, told us to take him to the Orthopedic Surgeon in a week, and told him that he couldn't play football till then. Brenlon was pretty bummed, till the doctor told him that if he played and hurt it again it would probably need surgery. We saw the Orthopedic Surgeon yesterday. The fracture isn't too bad. It is through the growth plate, but he didn't think it would cause him any problems. It wasn't displaced at all. He put a cast on it and said he could even keep playing football if he padded the cast and didn't do anything stupid. He'll be in the cast for about 5 weeks. Brenlon's coaches are glad he's back. They want to try him as quarter back, but I'm not sure that will work too well with the cast.
Treyton is amazing on the football field this year. He is really loving it, and very aggressive out there. He is on the starting team. He plays the entire game on defense, and more than half the game on offense. The coaches are just amazed at the changes and improvements he's made since last year. In his last game, he made several great tackles, and even recovered one of the other team's fumbles. He's really fun to watch. I've been calling him "Rudy".
Kierra gave us our last bit of excitement. Sunday morning she came into my room and she had cut her own hair--all of it, except for a little mullet that she couldn't reach in the back. I couldn't believe it. We were growing her hair out to donate like Kindra had. She only had about a half an inch to go. Apparently she was tired of waiting! She now looks like our 5th boy. We keep getting her mixed up with Landon, as does everyone else. She looks like a totally different person. I had to give her a "Boy Haircut" to try to fix it. She left just enough up on top to do a comb-over and hide most of what she scalped.
That's been our excitement that last couple of weeks. Otherwise, we are doing good. Jayden is enjoying Select Soccer. He is getting a lot of playing time, which is great for being one of the youngest on the team. Treyton and Brenlon's team is playing really well. Their last game, they beat Imbler 52-24. We are all doing good. We sure love hearing what's new with all of you. Take Care!

Yipppie
Thanks DeLana, I finally get to sign in and Write something. Not that I have any thing special to say. I sure do enjoy the up dates you kids are putting on about your families. The Pictures are just great. Today is Saturday, oops really since it is 1:45 am I guess really it is Sunday. I can't sleep so thought I'd look around oon the net. We are busy like the rest of you, rush, rush, hurry, hurry. Always something going. We had our first freeze on Thursday nite I think it was, see I even loose track of the days. The green beans bit the dust any way and I need to see if I can salvage any thing from them. The new strawberry plants were loaded with berries. Darn any way. I should have good crop for those grandkids who come up next summer. Well hope your week next is a good one. To quote

Raven's Baptism
Raven's baptism was Sept. 2. She and her best friend were the first ones from our ward to be baptized in our new stake center. She was very particular about how she wanted everything. She picked her witnesses and the men that she wanted in the circle to confirm her. She called every one individually and asked them to stand in the circle. She was even particular about the songs that she wanted to be sung. I said the closing prayer. That was a mistake. It was very hard for me to keep composed. We made Raven read a bunch of different scriptures so that she would understand what she was doing and how to build her faith and testimony. It was a beautiful day and we ended with her favorite meal of Taco Salad at our house for lunch. It is hard to believe that our baby is 8. Next milestone is Young Women's. Thank heaven that I have almost 4 years and another baptism before then.

Trip to Salem
This weekend we headed to Salem, Or to the State Fair. We left on Friday morning. We stopped at the falls just before we got to Portland and ate lunch. We went downtown Salem to the State Capitol building. We toured the building and grounds around it. It's a beautiful place. Treyton and Brenlon needed to tour it to get their Citizenship in the Nation merit badge. They got to sit in the Governor's chair, and learned quite a bit about the history of Oregon and it's Capitol buildings (2 previous buildings burnt down). We then went to Riverfront Park and rode the old Carousel.
On Saturday morning we headed to the Fair. Treyton gave his Presentation at 10:30. He did a great job. We are anxious to find out how he placed. We spent a few hours seeing the sights at the Fair. We got to watch some Open Class hog shows. There were a lot of really nice looking pigs there. It was fun to see which Boar won, as well as which Gilt and Barrow. The 4-H kids had shown the previous days, so we didn't get to see that. After we left the Fair, we came back home. It was a long way to go for such a short stay, but it was well worth it.
School starts up tomorrow for us. Landon is hardly able to contain himself! All the kids are pretty excited. Treyton and Brenlon have their first football game on Thursday. Jayden has his first Select Soccer game on Saturday. Kindra and Landon are competing in the Elks Soccer Shoot on Saturday. Last time Kindra tried it she won, went to Districts and won, then went to State and got 2nd place. She is excited to try it again. Kindra got her hair cut a couple weeks ago. She's been growing it out for a long time so she could donate it to Locks for Love. They take donated hair and make custom wigs for kids who lose their hair due to cancer treatments. She loves her new hairstyle, and had a neat experience giving to those in need.
We are doing good around here. We are busy, but doing really good.

IT'S A BOY!!!!
Well we went in for the ultrasound on Friday. The technician started and we saw a little bit of a picture, then she stopped and asked if we wanted to know what it was. We told her we did and she said, "Good, I wasnt sure I would be able to hide that." I guess she saw that it was a boy right a way. Anyways the little guy is doing good and looking healthy, everything is how it is supposed to be. He is a fighter, he kept kicking at the point of pressure, or putting his hands up in the way. It is wierd to see that he has all his parts and is only about 1 pound. Anyways when she was checking his legs and trying to get a picture to prove it was a boy, he wouldnt cooperate, he kept he legs crossed, but with some time and with some pressure he let us get the pictures. Due date is January 3rd, and well I dont know what else to say. Miss you all.

fair weekend
Hello to all. Hope all are having a great week so far. Our weekend last weekend was full. Mom and I worked for Jane in the fair at her concession. Taedyn rode a sheep for the second year in a row and had to wear the chaps this year. He didn't last to long. I asked him what happened he said I don't know. I just fell off. He was so excited to ride. Braycen is growing so fast. I officially have a rotten 3 year old and a into everything toddler. Braycen is starting to get such a personality that he keeps us all laughing. He is definitely a nana's boy. He wakes up and wants nana over mom. He even likes to sit with papa. We had two huge grizzly bears at the house on Friday night in the field. A little to close for comfort for me. The won was as big as Sheri's cows that are in there. At first I thought it was a cow til it turned its head. I called bear before and it was a cow so I got laughed at. So this time it took me a little longer to call bear. (had to make sure because I was getting laughed at again.) Then they came out in the open of the field and they were so big I said grizzlys and then they ran and dad said yep sure are. I really need to post some pics. I will one day I promise.

Our calling still remain the same. Deni in Primary and Bo ex-secretary. Braycen loves going in nursery Bo will bring him in during priestood then mom takes him during sunday school and gives him a nap. Today Braycen stayed the whole time in nursary because Bo was helping me out. Braycen went and ate snacks from everybody's plates. Taedyn loves nursery but it to big to be in there in our openion. He is so smart to smart for his own good sometimes. Fair Week
We survived! Fair week is officially over. The kids had another successful year. We came home with lots of ribbons and trophies. Brenlon and Jayden got Grand Champion on their team presentation. Treyton got Grand Champion on his individual presentation, and now gets to represent our county at the State Fair in Salem in a couple of weeks. He's really excited about that. Brenlon and Jayden both gave individual presentations. They each learned good lessons on sportsmanship, as this time the little brother came out on top! Jayden received Grand Champion, and Brenlon received Reserved Champion.
Treyton achieved his ultimate goal: He beat the "Weed Queen" in the Weed and Crop ID Contest. A girl in our club has won it the last few years, so we call her the Weed Queen. Treyton beat everyone at the fair (4-H and FFA), and received a nice trophy. Brenlon won in his division, and Jayden came in Third (They are Juniors and Treyton is an Intermediate). They had to identify 32 different types of crops and weeds--some were in plant form, and some were only seeds. Brenlon won in his division (Junior) in the Livestock Judging Contest. They had to judge 6 different types of livestock, and give Oral Reasons to a Judge on one of the types (this time it was Market Lambs). He was pretty excited about that, and received a nice trophy as well.
Jayden's pig made weight, and was sold at the auction on Saturday. Brenlon's gilt didn't make weight, so he entered her in the Breeding Class, and received Reserved Champion. He has sold her to his Sunday School teacher. Treyton's pig didn't make weight either, but he also has him sold to his Sunday School teacher.
Kindra and Landon got to show pigs in Pee Wee Showmanship. They are so fun to watch. Landon is very intense in the ring, and will be quite a showman when he gets older. Kikki was upset that we didn't enter her, but I was too afraid of other pigs running her over. I promised her that she could do it next year.
We had a great fair, and are all glad it's over. We are planning on spending the week playing catch-up: on laundry, weeding, cleaning, and most important on SLEEP!

Washington, D.C.
Raven and Steve are finally back from D.C. Raven didn't want to come home because she had so much fun. It is interesting all of the things that she was impressed with. She really learned a lot. She can't pick her favorite thing that she saw. She can tell you tons about each thing that she saw and did. She came home with her own copies of the Constitution, Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights. She wants to go back as soon as possible. It was fun to be able to talk to her about the things she had seen because I had been there. I highly recommend it for a family vacation. Raven went with 2 disposable cameras and probably could have used 3. She took some decent pictures too. Steve said that she did great and he walked her little legs off. She is fully recovered from her kidney infection and almost back to 100%. We are grateful for the prayers and fasting on her behalf. She started to finally improve about half way through the family fast. We are headed to Lake Powell on Sunday and will post some pictures on that when we get back. Then school starts a week after that. I am so excited to have 2 kids in school this fall. Have fun getting ready for school!

Raven
Raven is feeling much better. She is almost back to butt kicking form. She didn't have to have any fever reducer yesterday. So far today she doesn't have a fever and she is actually a little sassy. Normally I don't like my kids to be sassy, but in this case I have been glad because I take it as meaning that she is feeling better. She actually has an appetite now. She was jumping around a little bit this morning and I felt bad reminding her that she still needs to conserve her energy so that her body can keep fighting the infection. I greatly appreciate the prayers and fasting. I noticed a drastic improvement around noon on the day of the fast and it has all been uphill since then. We are greatful for the support of family. Thank-you so much. Now let's get more blogs on here. Karen is going to put us all to shame! :)

I am so techno-challenged!
This is pretty neat! Thought I'd update you on the happenings of the Brett Moore family.
Brenlon has been playing in his Major Boy's All-Star Tournament this week. The tournament is set up as a pool play. There are two pools. They played on Monday and lost. They played Tuesday and won. They played Wednesday and lost. We figured that would put us out of the running for the semi-final game on Saturday. They played yesterday (Thursday) and just had fun. It was a fabulous game. They won by one point in the bottom of the last inning. What a heart-pounder! We found out that we are in a 3-way tie for 2nd place in our pool. Whether we play in the semi-finals on Saturday depends on who wins a game today between LaGrande and Triangle, and how many points are scored (how many points scored against each team is what breaks the tie). We are a long-shot, but it's been a fun tournament.
We are also playing soccer. Landon is loving his first year of playing. I am coaching his team. He plays on the U-7 team, which is 5&6 year olds. They play 3 on 3. Landon does pretty well, but I find that I have to remind him to go get the ball a lot (he loves to watch his shadow run). He scored his first goal last night. Jayden and Kindra are playing on the U-11 team. They are doing well. Kindra is still pretty timid, but seems to enjoy playing. Jayden gets right in the middle of it. He scored 4 goals last night in his game. Treyton and Brenlon play on the U-15 team. Treyton loves soccer. It is definitely his sport. Brenlon has been playing baseball in the afternoons, and then playing soccer at night. He does well at soccer, but prefers baseball. He'll be glad when he's only playing one sport at a time, though.
The boys are getting ready for our County Fair. Our pigs got sick this year, so they are really small. It will take a miracle for Treyton's and Brenlon's to gain enough weight. Jayden's pig was too big when we got him, so he should be just right at Fair time. Our fair is July 31-Aug. 5.
Everything is going well around here. We are really busy, and don't ever seem to be home. I tell people that it keeps us out of trouble! Hope you are all doing well.

Come join me!
I thought that it might be nice to have a blog page where we can post what is going on in our lives. We can also post pictures and keep in touch this way. I have friends who are doing it and love it for keeping up with their family. Now that we all have the internet we have no excuses. The latest edition to our family has been the grass in our back yard. It is so nice not to have a dust or mud pile out there. Jaxon has finally figured out how to go down stairs without falling down them. Raven and Sidnee are loving karate and Mason can't wait to take karate this fall. Steve just started back on the night shift today and I am so glad. He will work 4 days, have 1 day off, work 4 more days and then have 6 days off. I told him that we could use those days to go camping or visit family, or do projects around the house. He just kind of stared at me funny. I think he has ambitions of spending those days on bike trips. We absolutely love where we are and our neighbors are fantastic. Once again I have become the party instigator, but others are quickly catching on. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of any tomatoes on my plants. We didn't get them planted until mid June, so they will be late. My zucchini is looking wonderful. It has about 8 blooms that are just about ready to open. I am so excited to be able to grill my own zucchini. We didn't put much in our garden because of the late start we got on it. This fall, I am going to add compost and manure and next spring we will start on time. We are wanting to plant a cherry tree for eating. Any suggestions on varieties. We are also going to put in a fruit salad tree. It grows 4 different types of fruit. It will have apricot, peach, nectarine, and I think pear. I'm not sure on the last one. Anyway, climb on board and let's have fun with this blog.
