The Miracle of Life

It has been some time since I have taken time to share my thoughts, and some might say that is because I don't often have any, which sometimes feels right. I have reached to stage of life where I need to slow down to think and breath. I did stop to enjoy one of lifes special moments on Saturday, the 7th of February. I got a call from my son-in-law at about 7:20 am. As the fog cleared in my brain and I wondered what ninny was calling at this hour (Saturday is one day I get to sleep in and on this day my body was cooperating). I reach for the phone and give a half hearted hello and hear this excited masculine voice say you'd better get breakfast for Gary in a hurry, we are in labor. Three and a half years ago the whole show lasted for about 3 hours from start to finish so as things registered I knew I'd better hurry. I asked if the boys were coming to stay with papa, Yes they would bring them over. My daughter was doing last minute things like in the shower and wash the hair kind of things then they would be over. So up I jump with renewed energy, dash to the kitchen for my little guys have not eaten either. Sausage and eggs and toast will be quick and I can be ready to go when I need to.

The little family arrives and the 2 little boys are as I expect, hungry, but they are always loooking for something to eat. I offered the dad breakfast or any given part of breakfast, but no he didn't want any. This was a sure indicator that his mind was else where. This from the dad who would talk to the tummy, "Hello baby, we need you to hurry up and come out and play." I turn my attention to the mom, who is contracting every 4 to 6 minutes. She will stop and bend over and grit her teeth till it passes and then continue to fuss over her boys, who might add arrived with suitcases and favorite blankies and build a bear friends. They were ready for the duration. After the grandma had her shower and shampoo the mother andI sat in the office chairs talking and timing. It was interesting, as I think to my self I don't think I was that tough, as close as those pains are and as intense as they seem I'd have been out of here long ago. Finally we go to the living room where the Dad sees how intense things are and says "we are going". Mom we are leaving, Okay I'm right behind you. Today I get the pickup so Papa Can bring up the boys after the excitement is over and there is something to see. I head out and there stand or rather hunched over with hands on knees is my daughter waiting for car seats to be moved and I like to think for me to get out and go. Now I might add that for the last child I missed by moments the arrival because I had to feed the papa. This time I was determined not to repeat that experience so you can imagine how I might react when the window in the bedroom popped open and Papa's voice called me back to the house. Not again! It seems I needed to get the registration papers before I left. The kids say they are going on and I say I'll be right there. Back in I go for the paper and a short discussion on other things I could do before I go and I respond in the negative and go out the door. 7 minutes to the hospital and park and in the door I go at a not to fast pace, as I round the corner at the nurses desk I am met by the dad with a "hurry up we are at a 10 and headed to the delivery room". WOW. That close to missing it again. Can you imagine walking in the doors at 9:50 am and have it all over by 10:17 am. Shades of grandma Mounts. I was a spectator who tried to stay out of the way and felt great joy at the priviledge of being present at the arrival of Brookelin Kadence. She was due the 4th and so that is 3 days past her due date and was 9.1 pounds and 21 and 1/4 inches long with wavy black hair. She is the best baby, and that could be because I am not around much but she seems to be content and eats well. What a sweet treat to sit and hold such a precious gift from heaven. I am grateful to a loving Heavenly Father for the gift of families, for the love and for the joy that comes as we learn and grow together. May we all appreciate the blessings we receive.

Another Year

What a day, up at 5 am thanks to Mother Nature, get Gary's breakfast, dress and head out the door by 6. Almost to the car and I hear the window open and my sweet husband calls "Happy Anniversary". Oh, it is my anniversary, wow. 41 years with that guy. How time flys. We sure have had a lot of experiences together. We have delt with major health issues which now seem minor. We have experienced the birth of 5 of the most beautiful babies ever, which I must admit seems to run in my family. Look at the cute babies of my kids and my neices and nephews. We are rich beyond belief. I often ponder on the challenges that come our way and sometimes wish that we had been more financially blessed but then which of my blessings would I have to give up? The good health that my kids enjoy...nope, the testimonies of our children...nope, the relationship we had with our kids throughout their growing up years....nope. You know when it comes right down to it I am greatful to a loving Heavenly Father who knows who we are and how to bless us in the best way possible, even though it may take some time for us to see and appreciate the blessings we receive.
The next three weeks are going to be interesting. This Saturday I am involved in cooking for 70 people and we are serving chicken cour don blu. I know how to cook it but am not so sure on the spelling. On the 6th we are feeding about 90 and that will be pork loin with apple stuffing. One the 12th for the Principals of our school district (70 ish) again with the stuffed pork loin. On the 13th (count is up to 91) with both the chicken and pork loin. Throw in the potatoes, some baked and some twice baked and 2 kinds of veggies and 3 kinds of salads and home made buns along with a dessert table whether it is a dozen different kinds of pies or and assortment of holiday types of dessert and I will come up of air after the end. About the 14 I will be so greatful for Christmas holiday and having 2 boys and two grandbabies here, I am so excited. That will be 4 kids in my house for Christmas and Santa will come again and I just have to watch and cuddle and love what more could oone ask?

Rushing, Rushing

Well time is flying by. I am not sure if that is an age thing or not. I hear young parents talk about the lack of time and do not remember it being so when I was a new mom. I wonder if our Heavenly Father has his finger on the time wheel and is spinning it a little faster as it gets closer to the wind up scene? I don't know about any one else but for me who is waiting for the benefits of old age to set in, you know time to quilt or knit or craft, or clean house or sleep or, need I go on. There just seems to always be something you have to do or somewhere you have to go. People waiting on you, seem to know when you sit down for a minute and that is when they call.
I was talking to Garett the other night as he drove back to Moses Lake and he lovingly reminded me that I still have things to learn. Darn I thought I had it all under control, doing all the things I know I should to the best of my ability, but as I pondered what he said I realized that he is right and I have to quit coasting and get in and dig and make me better. More work, wouldn't ya know.
I am so excited, I will have 3 of my 5 kids here at Christmas. That will be 3 little boys and a sweet litle girl who we will meet for the first time. I am planning already. Food and decorating and activities for the kids. But I am also planning on getting a little more done in the house. little things like kitchen cupboard doors and an island. Maybe hang some gyprock. Just little things, but oh so helpful. I'll keep dreamin.

Here We Go Again

Wow, Here it is time for school and I am headed back just like my grandkids. Wish I was a student too. This year brings some firsts. New dietary laws for schools brings some changes to our menu and that will be interesting to see how the kids handle no more fries, pop, chips or candy in the school. They say itis good to have some challenges in our lives. I am not so sure that they should be mandated though.
Gary and I are fine, Gary is once again coaching the defense on the high school football team. He still likes mental challenges but now admits he isn't as fast as he once was. Are any of us?

Finally!

I haven't been posting on this blog because I have my very own and one for my little family. I also forgot my login info. Blogging is so easy that I couldn't resist doing my own. I am leaving this one for Deni to maintain. I hope that by adding some links that people will get to visit everyone else's.

well hello

Well it has been a long time since we have up dated. We went to Idaho for Christmas were Santa spoiled the boys. Taedyn got a new BMX bike and Braycen got his own trampoline. Taedyn is trying to talk Braycen into sharing the tramp with him. Taedyn is loving pre school and is so smart. The teacher gave him a paper with how to write his name on it. He looked at her and said "I don't need that I already know how to write my name I am not stupid." I got a laugh out of that when she told me that. Braycen has his nana wrapped around his finger. Everytime he is in trouble he wants his nana or when we go some where he wants his nana. Funny kid. He is throwing the biggest fits lately that it drives us nuts, needless to say he has been getting in trouble and then again wants his nana. We got to see Cam and Kassie at Christmas and enjoyed visiting with them. Dallas is so cute. I could have taken him home. I am busy coaching basketball and busy is the word. Bo is now the Young Men's pres in our ward so he is super busy with at least 2 meetings a week and this week was 3. I am currently the Primary Secretary and have 1 meething a week. We enjoyed the super bowl this year. Way to go Giants. Bo and I are still busy with work. We are looking forward to break up in March/April and may be making a quick trip to Idaho. Maddie is due to have her pups next week and she is absolutely HUGE. Anyone want a puppy. Well we hope to hear from all of you soon.

That is about it with us, Dallas is just getting so big (he is trying to walk), Kassie is trying to get her student teaching done (four more weeks) and Cam has applied to a few positions that have opened up at Etrade so we may be moving soon.

I can finally get on here!

Wow! It's been a long time since I've been able to add a new post! Things here are going good. We are beyond busy. Brett is working long hours. His calling is also keeping him hopping. Needless to say, I'm starting to feel like a widow! Treyton has just started his High School Basketball season. Their first game is on Nov. 30. He has been working around the house, and almost has the basement bathroom finished. He and the other men in the house have been working on the laundry room as well, and have the two bedrooms framed out. Treyton and Brenlon are working hard to get it done, as they are anxious to move in down there. Now all we are waiting on is some time at home. We are gone pretty much every night of the week. Brenlon and Jayden have already played in a basketball tournament in Enterprise last Saturday. Brenlon is a starter, and he played really well. Jayden is on the B-team, and is working hard. Kindra just finished up with volleyball. The Jr. High coach put together practices and two games for the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders during the month of Oct. She really enjoyed it. Treyton just turned 15. He is studying the Oregon Drivers Manual so he can take his test to receive his Learner's Permit and start driving. That sure makes me feel old! Landon is excited for his birthday on Monday. He wants to have a Pig Party. I've been looking on the internet for all things pig! I can't believe he's almost 7. Kierra is anxious for her birthday as well, and can't wait for Christmas, "cuz I will be 5 four days after Christmas." We are planning a trip to Missouri this year, and can't wait to see everyone back there. We are also taking time to head to Nauvoo between Christmas and New Year's. The kids can't wait to go. We are hoping to see everybody sometime/somewhere on our trip!

DeLana you are right we are all always busy. Well nothing really new with us. Football Tuesday-Friday. We are still undefeated. 6-0 record. We have 2 games left. Bo and I talked in church yesterday. I got my horse back from the trainer she has 6 rides on her. I need to go ride her some more so I can turn her out. Braycen got bumped today at daycare and split his head open on the corner of a wall. He thinks it is cool told the Dr. all about it. The doctor and Chona Dick were laughing at him. He didn't get stitches just those new strips they have they find things heal better with less scarring so we will see. Bo just laughed and said it was bound to happen. The kid that bumped him feels so bad. Krista feels bad. Things happen. I don't know if I am coaching basketball. The school is being stupid about it. I don't have time to play games. I would rather save the money and time and spend it with my family. We are enjoying our house. Taedyn really misses Landon and would rather see Landon at Christmas then the Jacobsen clan. Anyone there!

I know that we have all had a lot going on in our lives, but hey, I'd like to hear about it. We discovered that we have a soccer star in our family. Mason seems to be a natural. He knows to make the ball go to the goal and to correct it's direction if it is headed the wrong way. He scored at least 1 goal in every game. He scored 4 in his 4th game and 5 in his 5th. He loves soccer and now is telling us that he wants to try basketball. Sidnee and Raven are loving their new school and especially love learning spanish. Mason loves preschool while Jaxon loves playing with his new buddy, Logan, who is the preschool teacher's son. I watch him in exchange for paying no tuition for Mason. It works out really well for me. Jaxon is always asking when he can play with Logan. Potty training is going well. We are down to less than one accident a day. I canned my first meat today. It is really easy. Today was beef. Tomorrow I tackle chicken. I am anxious to have it out of my freezer and into jars. Mason also fell down the window well about 3 weeks ago and got his first set of stitches. He now thinks that he is pretty tough!

WOW

How sweet it is to hear from everyone and especially to see how Dallas is growing. He is so cute. I appreciate the up dates guys.
Now as for Dad and I, we are the same, getting older by the moment. Last Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the 28, 29, and 30 Jane C. and Sheri S. and I cooked for 40 people at Birch Bay resort and I came home pooped. We made 11 different pies and cinnamon buns and donuts along with all the meals. It is fun to cook for people who appreciate it.
Now it is time to go back to work and I am ready. Your dad has a new calling and he was not excited about it. He is the new Exec. Sec. This means he has to give up his primary class and this he does not want to do. He loves his kids. I would appreciate some in put. Any ideas that you have or activities that are well received for us to make our Relief Society more interesting for our sisters would be great. I am looking for things for Sunday as well as things for Enrichment. Well please remember that we love you all and keep you in our prayers. Since we are only 2 now there is not much to write about so this is short and I don't know about the sweet. Nana

Well I swear this hasnt been up and running for a while, but since I can post now I will. Here are some recent pictures of Dallas. He is now crawling everywhere and pulling himself to a standing position on anything and everything. No words yet. But he makes noise. And yes that first picture is him at my computer.(I wasn't home). Others are just there. Kassie and I are doing fine. She is doing her student teaching this fall, which starts on Tuesday. I am waiting for the position in Seattle to open up so I can apply for that. Anyways thats about it.

Hello!

I have been the biggest slacker on this whole blog. I could never remember my password so I had to create a whole new one and it still let me on this post without losing anything. School is in full tilt and it is nice to have the girls going together. They ride their bikes and don't have to wait on anyone. Sidnee is so excited that she makes her lunch every night and bugs me at 7 am to see when she can leave. They don't leave until 7:40. She is on a new diet. She has had some erractic emotions, so the doctor said to take her off of all grains and refined sugar. She also can't have caffiene. There is a special bread that she can have called Spelt bread. I finally located a loaf at the health food store. It cost me $4.69. So I am now searching for a recipe so that I can make my own and maybe save some money. The girls are loving school and Mason can't wait to start preschool next week. 4 hours a week with just one at home. Aahh, sweet bliss. Jaxon and I have contracted Giardia. Our city water is contaminated. The doctor says that it just has to run it's course, which can be up to 25 - 30 days. All while we are trying to potty train. It doesn't work to well when the kid is extra gaseous and air is not all that comes out. he went through 13 pull ups yesterday. He has stayed in good spirits though. Mason just started soccer last saturday. He was the only one to score a goal on his team. Needless to say, his team got slaughtered. The house is very quiet with just the boys home. They play so well together. It is amazing how well they clean up after themselves when asked. When the girls get home it becomes total chaos. They have to be told repeatedly to clean up. They aren't going to have much playing or tv time if they don't get with the system. Steve and I are doing well and staying busy. It is now canning season and I have been dehydrating fruits to make nut & fruit mix. I bought 16 pounds of strawberries at .60/lb. I am trying pears and kiwis right now. I want to get some peaches in the next couple of weeks. Our tomatoes and peppers are doing great and we have enjoyed fresh salsa lately. We have 6 baby watermelon coming and 3 pumpkins. I am so ready for fall. I love the hot days and cool nights. I am looking forward to using our firebowl. OUr yard is finally coming back to life since we replaced the sprinkler and can now water more than 30 minutes a week. Well I must go, the chaos has arrived.

well hello family.

Well I see no one uses this anymore we are all so busy that no one has time. Well an up date on us. Bo and I are still busy working away. The boys love there daycare. They would rather live with them. Jeremy went out and bought a motor bike for them. They are spoiled rotten by Jeremy and Krista. Since they don't have kids of there own they have taken ours in as their own. There are other kids that go there, but they don't get spoiled like ours. Football has started full scale here now. So Bo and dad are really busy. We have practice from 7-8:30 tues, wed, thur, and games on friday. Bo loves it. The boys on the team love Bo also because he makes it a ton of fun for them. We are slowly getting moved in. I repeat slowly. This long weekend hopefully we will get pictures up and everything put away. That is our goal, but you know how it is when you want to get something done and plan on it, it never works out. I also have to go put a saddle on the filly this long weekend. The hot tub keeps us up late because the boys think they need to go swimming (imming as Braycen says it) every night. As for the other member of our family Jake we are trying to keep him alive (the dog) . The Vet doesn't know what is wrong he has had several blood draws and they can't figure it out. He goes in sperts of having a good day and a bad day. Where he can't walk at all he just falls over. Right now we are having a good day. they think it might be a disease that eats his bones and muscles away. but he is running and jumping so they can't figure it out. Dad thinks he is just growing to fast. He is such a good dog though. He is so gentle he would be an excellent house dog mom and dad say. Well that is all that is new with us. Well we love you all and think of you often. Hopefully we will see you all at Christmas time. Cam I want to see some pics of that baby I hear he is so cute and chubby.

long time no talkie

Well it has been a long time and nobody has posted anything to be exact Bubba was the last to post and that was on the 27 of Dec. Hope all are doing good. for those of you who don't know we are in the process of buying our first home. It has 14 acres. We are excited. Taedyn is the most excited. He is excited for the hot tub that comes with it. I can't believe how fast the year has gone by. What happened to all the time. The boys are good Braycen is growing so fast and talking so much. He is just like Bubba. I am in trouble. I likes to tease everyone and like to beat on Taedyn. Well hope all is well with everyone.

Christmas Candy

Hey! We just tried a recipe for some of the best (and easiest) Christmas cany! I thought you might enjoy having it. It was the Grand Prize winner in an issue of Taste of Home magazine.




Cookie Dough Truffles


1/2 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour (I had to use more)
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 miniature semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1-1/2 pounds semisweet chocolate candy coating, chopped


In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the flour, milk and vanilla; mix well. Stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts. Shape into 1-inch balls; place on waxed paper-lined baking sheets. Loosely cover and refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until firm.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt candy coating, stirring often until smooth. Dip balls in coating; place on waxed paper-lined baking sheets. Refrigerate until firm, about 15 minutes. If desired, remelt remaining cany coating and drizzle over candies. Store in the refrigerator.

Yield: 5-1/2 dozen.

A Moment of Silence

Wow! While I have a moment, I'll try to write a quick update:

Treyton and Brenlon are now playing basketball. Treyton is working hard, and has earned a starting position on the A-Team. Brenlon is starting on the B-Team. Football ended well--they crushed North Powder (our rival) 64-24. It was an awesome game to watch. They are both on the Lego Robotics Team, and will be competing in the local tournament on Saturday. They both got straight A's on their first quarter report card.

Jayden and Kindra are doing well. Kindra competed at the State Elks Soccer Shoot in Salem, Or earlier this month. She received 2nd place! She scored 34 points, which is a great score. She won the District Shoot with a score of 28. Jayden is excited to start basketball next week. Brett started up an AAU Basketball program here in Cove a few years ago for the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. Kindra is nervous to try it, but I'm sure she'll do great.

Landon is still having problems with his ears. He failed his 3rd hearing test recently. He has slight hearing loss in one ear, and slight-to-moderate hearing loss in the other. Monday we went in to see about getting his ears tubed again. They were infected again. We are setting an appointment with the specialist to tube them. This will be the 3rd time. They found during his hearing tests that his ears work fine, they are just constantly full of fluid so he can't hear well. It is starting to affect his daily life, so we are hoping tubing them again will help fix the problem.

Kierra is doing great. She is just a little ball of fire. She misses Lanny terribly in the mornings, but seems to enjoy the alone time with Mommy. I think she just misses fighting with Lanny, as that's what she starts doing as soon as we pick him up from school! She loves her short hair, but reminds me all the time that only Mommy can cut her hair now. Thank goodness!

We stayed home for Thanksgiving this year. This was a first for us. We've gone to my parents house every year since we've been married. It was such a nice, relaxing weekend! My parents came to our house Thursday and left Saturday. I think they enjoyed it also, so maybe we can do it again next year! After my parents left we went up the mountain and got a Christmas tree. We decorated it Sunday, as well as the inside of the house. We've never gotten the decorating done so early before! It feels so nice. We got 6 inches of snow Monday night and Tuesday morning, and now it's turned cold. It's supposed to warm up tomorrow, so I'm hoping to get lights and decorations up outside. I love the snow, but wish it wouldn't get cold right afterwards. The roads are just packed ice, as there was no time to melt them off.

Well, that's about it around here. Brett starts Tithing Settlement this Sunday. He's really looking forward to it! Ha! Ha! I've been having some health problems, but the doctors are working on figuring out what's wrong. Otherwise, we are doing well around here! Take care everyone!

If I can do this I want to show you some pictures. This was our weekend. We missed church on Sunday because we had the 4 wheel drive truck stuck, it slide down the hill toward the hay shed. Yes that was slid. I must admit I did not mind being in my home all day Saturday and Sunday.
